Repairing Barrows equipment

How lucky you have been

Chances are exact. A chest rolls once, plus once for each brother killed. Each roll is a Barrows piece 1 time in 102 with all six brothers killed (1 in 392 with one), drawn from the pieces of the brothers you killed and never the same piece twice in one chest. Otherwise the roll is a number from 1 to your reward potential, which picks the item and how many. Values are today's Grand Exchange instant-sell prices after the 2% tax; supplies are bought at instant-buy. Elite clues are counted, not priced. The pace is 12 chests an hour unless you type your own. Checked against the OSRS Wiki on 17 October 2026.

How many brothers to kill

Every brother you kill adds a roll and makes each roll likelier to be a piece, but spreads the pieces over four more items. With all six a chest gives a piece about 1 time in 15. If you only want one brother's pieces, killing just him makes a given piece a little under half as likely a chest, so it only pays when a run is that much quicker.

Reward potential

Reward potential is the combat levels of everything you killed in the run, counted up to 1,000, plus 2 for each brother. The six brothers come to 656, so after all six it takes 344 more from the tunnels: 5 skeletons, giant crypt rats or giant crypt spiders, 7 bloodworms or crypt spiders, or 8 crypt rats. A roll that is not a piece picks a number up to your reward potential, so a higher potential unlocks better items and bigger stacks, but it also makes bolt racks possible, which are often worth less a roll than blood runes. The table below is what each item gives.

Repairs

A piece of Barrows equipment lasts 15 hours of fighting: it loses a point every 54 seconds in combat, 1,000 points in all, and changes its name at every 250. An NPC charges for each point used, by slot. An armour stand in your house takes 1% off for every 2 Smithing levels, so about half at 99.

Elite clues

Each roll has a 1 in 200 chance of an elite clue scroll, and a chest never gives more than one, so seven rolls come to about 1 in 29. With the elite combat achievements the chance is 1 in 190 a roll, about 1 in 27.6 a chest.
