Superglass Make figures are averages. The glass from a cast is random, so a real bank lands a little above or below. Supplies are priced at what they cost to buy right now and glass at what it sells for after the 2% tax. A figure with a ~ is an estimate: the furnace's pace (14 at a time with a short walk to the bank), burning soda ash first, and the casts an hour when you pick up the glass that lands on the floor. The Grand Exchange sells 13,000 molten glass every four hours. Figures checked against the OSRS Wiki on 24 September 2026.
How molten glass is made
A bucket of sand and a soda ash make one molten glass at a furnace, for 20 Crafting experience. It is members only. Superglass Make does a whole inventory in one cast and pays 10 experience a bucket, but it turns each bucket into more than one glass on average. It needs 77 Magic, 61 Crafting and Lunar Diplomacy.
| Way | Sand | Glass | A bucket | XP a glass |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Furnace, with a soda ash | 1 | 1 | 1 | 20 |
| Superglass Make, 3 giant seaweed, glass picked up | 18 | 28.8 | 1.6 | 6.25 |
| Superglass Make, 3 giant seaweed, glass left | 18 | 26.1 | 1.45 | 6.9 |
| Superglass Make, 2 giant seaweed | 12 | 17.4 | 1.45 | 6.9 |
| Superglass Make, 13 seaweed | 13 | 16.9 | 1.3 | 7.69 |
| Superglass Make, 13 soda ash | 13 | 16.9 | 1.3 | 7.69 |
| Superglass Make, 13 swamp weed | 13 | 16.9 | 1.3 | 7.69 |
So a furnace pays more experience a glass and the spell makes more glass a bucket. For a Crafting goal most of the experience comes from blowing the glass, which is the same either way, so the spell usually wins on cost. A furnace trip is 14 sand and 14 soda ash, about 1,826 glass an hour at a furnace next to a bank.
Soda ash from a giant seaweed
Seaweed, giant seaweed and swamp weed burn into soda ash on a range or a fire, for no experience. Seaweed and swamp weed make one each. A giant seaweed makes 6, or 1 when it goes wrong, and from 51 Cooking it never goes wrong.
| Cooking | Makes six | Soda ash a seaweed |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | 0.4% | 1.02 |
| Level 10 | 18.4% | 1.92 |
| Level 20 | 38.3% | 2.91 |
| Level 30 | 58.2% | 3.91 |
| Level 40 | 78.1% | 4.91 |
| Level 45 | 87.9% | 5.39 |
| Level 50 | 98.0% | 5.90 |
| Level 51 | 100.0% | 6.00 |
Where the sand comes from
After The Hand in the Sand, Bert sends 84 buckets of sand to your bank once a day, and does it on his own with the elite Ardougne Diary. Drew grinds sandstone from the desert quarry into sand for 50 coins a bucket. Sand pits fill empty buckets in Prifddinas, on the Great Conch, in Zanaris and five other places. Trader Stan's charter ships sell buckets of sand, soda ash and seaweed for 5 coins each, ten or twenty at a time.
Molten glass questions
How much sand does 1,000 molten glass take? 1,000 buckets and 1,000 soda ash at a furnace. With Superglass Make and three giant seaweed it is about 690 buckets, or 625 if you pick up the glass that lands on the floor.
Is it cheaper to make or to buy? The first table above answers it at today's prices, and the one under it shows what each way pays if you sell the glass. Casting Superglass Make to sell the glass is one of the wiki's money making methods.
Which furnace? Edgeville's is 14 tiles from the bank with no requirements. Prifddinas, Shilo Village and a few Sailing ports are a little closer.
What else is there? The seaweed calculator plans Superglass Make to a Crafting level with the spores to grow the seaweed, and the Crafting calculator has every other way to train it, priced the same way.
