OSRS Sailing Calculator
Barracuda Trials runs, salvage, courier routes, bounty tasks and trawling to your Sailing goal, every method side by side with its experience and hours.
Set experience directly to plan past level 99, up to 200M.
This page shows no money. Salvage and bounty loot are random, courier crates and bounty items cannot be traded, and trawled fish belong to Fishing, so the table gives you level, experience and time. One action is a trial run, a salvage or a bounty task; courier routes, charting and trawling plan time only. A figure with a ~ is an estimate: bounty tasks (timed at the kill pace a cannon of your level allows), trawling (a crewmate on the second net), low-level port tasks and the ranges the guides give as a spread. Trial runs include ten seconds between runs. Figures checked against the OSRS Wiki on 24 September 2026.
Experience you only get once
Seven quests pay Sailing experience, 50,000 in all, and the 358 sea charting tasks pay 691,270 between them with the bonuses for finishing each ocean and every chart. That is 741,270 before any repeatable method, so do them as their levels come up. Finishing every chart also unlocks the keg of horizon's lure, the 2.5% boost above.

The fastest way to 99
Barracuda Trials, from level 30. The Tempor Tantrum at Marlin rank until 55, the Jubbly Jive until 72, then the Gwenith Glide, where a Marlin run is 19,410 experience and a good hour is well over 180,000 before a crystal extractor. Each rank has to be beaten once before the next opens, and the first clear of each pays a one-off bonus. Before 30, charting and courier tasks are the way up.
How bounty tasks are timed
A bounty task pays its own experience and 1 Sailing experience for every point of damage the kills take. The table times them at 83 veiled krakens an hour on a dragon cannon, the pace the Veiled kraken page gives, scaled to the cannon your level can build, and never more than 83 kills an hour of anything.
| Cannon | Sailing | Damage an hour |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | 28 | 5,210 |
| Iron | 35 | 6,412 |
| Steel | 47 | 7,614 |
| Mithril | 57 | 9,378 |
| Adamant | 69 | 12,984 |
| Rune | 80 | 15,269 |
| Dragon | 92 | 18,675 |
Sailing questions
What is the most relaxed way to train? Shipwreck salvaging with crewmates on the other hooks. It is slow at low levels and much better from 42, when a salvaging station can go on the boat.
Do courier tasks give more experience for longer trips? Yes. A task pays by the distance, so a round trip pays twice a one-way trip, and taking tasks whose cargo starts somewhere else, then teleporting there, adds to the hour.
What does a crystal extractor add? 250 experience a harvest from 73, about 10,000 an hour on top of whatever else you are doing, or 15,000 if you harvest it every minute.
Where are the other skills' numbers? The XP calculator times Sailing beside every other skill, from the same figures as this page.
